A lively Chinatown institution near Olympiades, offering classic Chinese dishes and solid accessibility in a busy setting.
Chinatown Olympiades is a local institution. Set above the Galerie Oslo shopping centre in the 13th, it’s busy, noisy, and unapologetically traditional, with a largely local crowd and a constant sense of movement. Its proximity to Olympiades on Line 14 makes it a particularly practical choice.
The restaurant is located upstairs on the first floor of the Galerie Oslo shopping centre and can be reached from the main entrance to the shopping centre on avenue d'Ivry via a ramp (which is maybe on the steeper side for some). From here, turn right to the accessible lift. Entry into the dining room is flat, with wide doors (90 cm+) that are usually kept open.
Inside, the space is workable but energetic. Staff move continuously through the room with trolleys of dishes, and larger tables are set with lazy Susans, which makes sharing easy but adds to the buzz. It’s busy, and you do need to stay aware of what’s circulating, but there is enough room to manoeuvre.
The toilet is accessible and fairly spacious however the shape of the room means that there is not much space on either side of the toilet which may be an issue for some. The door is also fairly heavy, though being on the way to the kitchen, the area is generally busy should assistance be needed.
The menu is extensive and good value for the quality. We paid around 40 € per person for a generous selection of dishes and a fruit platter to finish. Highlights included the cha siu bao (8 € for three) and a well-executed Peking duck, served in two courses and carved at the table. Service stays impressively efficient given the pace of the room.
The atmosphere often tips into the festive. Weddings, karaoke, and large group celebrations are common, especially in the evenings and at weekends, which adds to the noise but also to the character. Staff remain focused and efficient throughout.
Chinatown Olympiades is a strong choice if you want classic Chinese cooking, generous portions, and access that works, as long as you’re comfortable with a lively, high-energy dining room.
Flat access via first floor of shopping mall. Doors 90 cm+ and kept open.
Accessible toilet, however, there is no space on either side of the toilet. Also the door is fairly heavy.
Enough room to manoeuvre. Very busy circulation with staff and trolleys.
Busy but efficient.
